In addition to rally driving and running D.A.D
Andy has also shared his engineering expertise with the British public through his many published works as a motorsport journalist. Andy tested, drove and reviewed many vehicles for Cars and Car Conversions magazine and also wrote a monthly engineering advice column for CCC from 1975 to 1978.
He is probably best remembered for his ‘Dawson’s Dodges’ articles which regularly appeared in CCC, providing in-depth analyses and advice on getting the best out of various race and rally cars. It is a testament to the endurance both of Andy’s writing and motorsport expertise that extracts from ’Dawson’s Dodges’ were reprinted as a series in Track and Race Car magazine in the late 2000s – 30 years after they were first written!
Andy worked as a tester and writer for Historic Rally and Race magazine in the early 90s, and returned to motorsport journalism more recently, writing prolifically for Track and Race Car magazine between 2007 and 2008. As well as examining current developments in motorsport, Andy took readers ‘Back To Basics’ with a series of comprehensive articles covering every aspect of how to maximise a car for competition.
